What exactly is RCS (RBM) SMS ?

RCS, short for Rich Communication Services, represents an enhanced version of SMS. Through RCS, businesses can deliver personalized and interactive mobile experiences to their customers. This includes engaging features such as images, GIFs, videos, suggested replies, and carousels.

One notable advantage of RCS over traditional SMS is its two-way communication capability, fostering interaction between the sender (bot) and the end user. This is in contrast to A2P SMS, which is predominantly one-way communication from the sender to the user.

The specific term for business-to-end-user RCS messaging is RBM, or RCS Business Messaging.

What does RCS Agent entail ?

An agent serves as a conversational entity, engaging with users through message exchanges and responding to their input. Users interface with agents through an RCS-enabled messaging app, like the Android Messages app, on their devices. The term ‘RCS Bot’ mentioned in subsequent sections is interchangeable with an RBM Agent; these terms are synonymous.

What are the various categories of RCS (RBM) Agents ?

  • OTP Agents: OTP (One-time-password) agents play a crucial role in sending RCS messages for account authentication. They are particularly utilized in time-sensitive and immediate transactions.
  • Transactional Agents: These agents focus on delivering notifications and information to current customers, providing updates on business-related matters. They also supply relevant details about a customer’s existing services, products, editorial content, and media content.
  • Promotional Agents: Dedicated to sales, marketing, and promotions, these agents send messages to both new and existing customers. The messages encompass information about new or existing services or products, aiming to facilitate sales, cross-selling, up-selling, either immediately or in the future.

What is a Template ?

A Template constitutes a pre-defined collection of RBM UI elements, such as a Rich Card with suggestions, serving as a foundation for crafting messages in your campaign directed at the target audience. After the creation of a bot, the aggregator has the flexibility to generate multiple templates associated with the bot and deploy them in campaigns. These templates allow the inclusion of images, videos, and suggested actions.

The supported template types include:

  • Rich Card Stand-alone.
  • Rich Card Carousel.
  • Text Message.
